CLassroom discipline: Scoreboard
As noted under the "Class Dojo" tab under the "Classroom Info" page of this website, one of the methods I utilize in classroom management is the Class Dojo program. In addition, I utilize something called the "Scoreboard".
The "Scoreboard" is showcase on the classroom whiteboard each day. The scoreboard is divided in half into a t-chart (one side for teachers, the other side for students). The goal of each class period (ELA and SS), is for the students to end up with more points than the teachers. Students work as a class to earn points on their side of the scoreboard by following classroom expectations, working their hardest and being engaged members of our learning community. Teachers are awarded points instead if the teacher is ready to engage in learning for the day but students are having difficulty (excessive talking, out of seat, not ready to learn). Points are never taken away, but the goal is always the same: for students to work together to beat the teacher(s).
As a reward, if students "win" on the scoreboard that class period, they are awarded different rewards (treats in class, game time on the computer, token rewards, brain breaks, etc.) These rewards are changed each class period.
*Also, one major component of the scoreboard is called the "Guff Box", located in a box in the right-hand corner of the scoreboard. This is where letters from students names will go if students are breaking classroom or school rules. For each infraction, a letter of their first name goes into the box. If their entire name gets into the box, they will receive the consequence of a write-up/office referral to the Assistant Principal, which may warrant in-school suspension (ISS). Students do, however, have the chance to work their name out of the "Guff Box", by working hard and correcting their behavior by following classroom expectations. Each time they are spotted following directions and when they have regained composure, letters will be erased from the "Guff Box". If a student has any number of letters in the "Guff Box" by the end of the class period, and if the students as a whole earn the reward, that particular student will not earn the reward.
In addition to a write-up/office referral, students may also face the consequence of:
*Note: Some behaviors that are severely disrupting to the learning environment (yelling, disobedience, physical or emotional harm to oneself or another student, etc.) will warrant immediate removal from classroom.
*There is also a "Rockstar Box" on the scoreboard in which students who are ready to learn and have followed classroom expectations perfectly and have contributed to the lesson exceptionally, will be placed. Students will earn double the reward if they end up in the "Rockstar Box".

- Parent Notification (email, etc.)
- Planner Notification (to be signed by parent/guardian and returned to school)
- Detention/ISS (In-School Suspension)/OSS (Out-of-School Suspension)
