Words Their WAy (Spelling Program)
For spelling instruction, I use the "Words Their Way" program. Words Their Way uses the research-based developmental approach to word study that is student-centered and assessment driven. The goal of this approach is the progression of word knowledge, including the development of phonics, spelling, word recognition, and vocabulary.
I divide my students into spelling groups based on a beginning of the year spelling assessment. Throughout the year, students may move from group to group based on how well they are performing. There are four groups: Phoenixes, Owls, Hippogriffs and Eagles. Each group name changes each nine weeks, however each represents a spelling stage that students can be found in at any elementary age.
*In case your child loses their spelling list during the week, there are always extras available in the classroom on our "Spelling Wall". You can find them below:

Spelling Menu
Each week for extra credit/bonus points, students are provided a "Spelling Menu". This "menu" consists of nine activities meant to practice a student's spelling words throughout a given week. These are completely optional, but are highly recommended. Each activity is worth one bonus point for a total of up to nine points available. Students can complete any number of activities on the menu for points. For example, if a student completes four activities on the menu and checks them off, they can earn four bonus points towards their spelling grade. They are required to staple their completed activities with their spelling menu for credit. They are due no later than the date printed on the spelling menu. Turning assignments after they are due may be subject to reduced and/or no points awarded.
In case your child loses their spelling menu, there are always extras available on my "Spelling Wall" throughout the week. They are also available digitally below. No matter what spelling group a child is in, all students are provided the same spelling menu each week.
