un-homework
There will be no "regular" homework in our classroom. Students will work VERY hard each day. When students go home, they deserve some time to spend with family, be involved in sports and clubs, and have fun "being a kid".
Does that mean students will never have "school" things to do at home? Well, not quite... There may be some times they might have work to finish or catch up on if they were absent, didn't work their hardest (see above) or just needed some extra time to do their best. There will also be some tests and quizzes in fourth grade for which you will need to prepare at home. What there will not be are assigned worksheets, although spelling menus are available for extra credit and additional spelling practice each week (not required).
I do expect students to read every day at home. I know what some students may be thinking... "WHAT? You just said there WASN'T going to be assigned work!" I consider reading to be LIFE work, not homework. I recommend at least twenty minutes a day. I hope that students will be thrilled to not have regular homework so they'll have more time to read exciting new books.

Each week, I'll send home some optional assignments called "Un-Homework" that students may complete if they choose. These will be based on what we've already learned, are currently working on, or will study in the future. They are completely optional, but if students choose to do any, they will earn raffle tickets for our "Learning Lotto". These tickets are earned for completing assignments beyond what is required. Every week, I will draw tickets (from what students have turned in) which will be redeemed for prizes based upon the number they roll on a die.
